What We Do

QIB Extra carries out bespoke research for food, health and allied industries.
 
QIB Extra offers a rapid confidential service that can take the form of short-term contract research, consultancies or large applied research projects. We use our expertise and equipment to solve problems for our customers. Most of our work is in the form of short research projects or consultancies.

NCYC

National Collection of Yeast Cultures (NCYC) offers a number of commercial services including contract R&D, yeast identification, DNA fingerprinting and safe deposit.

Utilizing the expertise of the Analytical Sciences Unit at Quadram Institute, QIB Extra is able to offer  rapid screening methods for detecting substitution of undeclared material in foods.

New test to combat buffalo mozzarella fraud uncovers mislabelled products

Scientists from the Quadram Institute on the Norwich Research Park have developed a test that differentiates between buffalo and cow’s milk, and between the cheeses made from them. Applying the test to commercial products, they found that many restaurant meals and supermarket pizzas claiming to be buffalo mozzarella are mislabelled, and instead contain mozzarella made wholly or partially from cows’ milk.
