Benefits of Equipment and Resource Access

  • Advanced research capabilities: We house state-of-the-art equipment that enables cutting-edge research in food science, gut biology, and human health.
  • Comprehensive analysis: The institute's facilities support a wide range of analytical techniques, from genomics and bioinformatics to advanced imaging and clinical research. This enables comprehensive studies of complex biological systems using a multi-disciplinary approach.
  • Clinical research integration: The Quadram Institute Clinical Research Facility provides access to equipment for clinical trials and patient-oriented research, allowing for seamless translation of basic science to clinical applications.
  • Collaborative environment: The institute brings together researchers, academics, and NHS clinicians under one roof, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge exchange.
  • Access to specialized resources: Researchers can benefit from unique resources like the National Collection of Yeast Cultures and the Norwich Research Park Biorepository, which provide valuable biological materials for studies.
  • Industry partnerships: The institute's capabilities and equipment support collaborations with food and pharmaceutical industries, facilitating the development of new products and treatments.

The Quadram Institute building contains a range of state-of-the-art facilities and equipment that could be of interest to industrial partners lacking in-house alternatives. The facilities include the Clinical Research Facility, Germ-Free Facility, Containment Level 3 Facility (CL3), and Biorepository, while high-end equipment such as the model-gut, analytical instrumentation and DNA sequencing is also available on-site. Quadram Institute Bioscience importantly not only has state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, but also the expertise to maximise their effectiveness when delivering projects for our customers.

Facilities

Clinical Research facility (CRF)

The CRF is home to a host of research studies into a range of health conditions, involving patients and volunteers , and is therefore the perfect place for doing clinical research into food and nutrition. The CRF comprises of:
  • Reception space
  • Clinical space
  • DXA Scanner
  • Dedicated sample processing laboratory
  • Food Grade Catering/Kitchen facilities.
  • Research food storage facilities
  • Participants’ Lounge and Diner

Biorepository

Available for the banking of human tissue (i.e. blood, solid tissue, and other samples) in secure -80°C freezers. The facility can provide assistance from informed and ethical donor consent, through transport and archiving, to sample retrieval.
