Exciting news from QIB Extra! We are delighted to announce that TraDIS-Xpress (Transposon Directed Insertion-Site Sequencing) is now available as a service to external partners.
With TraDIS-Xpress, it is possible to assay the importance of every gene in a bacterial genome in a single experiment, assessing not only how gene deletion but also gene expression affects bacterial fitness in each test condition.
This approach consequently allows the investigation of essential genes that cannot be inactivated and therefore cannot be assayed by conventional transposon mutagenesis approaches.
TraDIS-Xpress can be used to investigate:
- How bacteria respond to an antimicrobial compound
- How bacterial weaknesses can be exploited to prevent bacterial contamination.
- Mechanisms to improve bacterial fitness in culturing conditions.
- How to increase the production of a protein or metabolite by a host bacterium
The TraDIS-
Xpress team, have developed a suite of highly saturated transposon mutant libraries in a range of organisms of interest, that can be used to identify fitness differences in a given test condition at base pair resolution.
A video from Prof. Ian Charles OBE, offering further insight to TraDIS-Xpress, can be seen below:

QIB Extra recently introduced TraDIS-Xpress, a groundbreaking service designed to assess the importance of individual genes in a bacterial genome within specific conditions. This service helps generate libraries of distinct mutants, gauges the impact on gene expression, and facilitates the examination of essential genes. It's a significant step forward for genetic investigations.
